Charlotte Ryan

Associate Professor Charlotte Ryan serves on the Steering Committee of UML’s Climate Change Initiative. She also coordinates the CCI’s Environment and Society minor.

Dr. Ryan teaches Fast Food, Hot Planet: Sociological Approaches to Climate Change, Food Justice, and Community Sustainability. Service learning partners have included the Lowell National Historical Park, World Peas Food Hub, Café Solar, and Lowell Food Day and Earth Day. As Co-Director of the Movement and Media Research Action Project, she works with under-represented and misrepresented constituencies to document communication inequalities, build communication infrastructure develop integrated communication strategies, evaluate results and theorize from practice. She is author of Prime Time Activism, and co-editor of Rhyming Hope and History: Activists, Academics, and Social Movement Scholarship.

Dr. Ryan also chairs the URBAN Research Network Publications Committee working to encourage publication of evidence-based community-based participatory action research.
